in Everything I Do Is Plooble

So, where were we?

Anyway, me and the Mrs. recently returned from our honeymoon in Curaçao, famous for producing an eponymous blue liqueur drunk only by teenagers in the dark, and Aruba, famous for causing people to start singing that Beach Boys song. On both islands they speak Papiamento, which is a patois of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, English, French and Edward James Olmos’ lines from “Blade Runner.”

Seriously though, it’s a beautiful language and we did pick up a few phrases. “Bon dia” means good day, “bon bini” means welcome and “masha danki,” I seem to recall, means, “Thank you very much,” although Jean says it means, “Faster, donkey!"

By the time we left we had picked up enough to be able to read the sign above, which I’m pretty sure means, "Johnny Walker – the world’s bendiest whisky."

When we landed in Aruba we immediately heard some airport employees speaking Papiamento, and it sounded like this: “Papiamento papiamento papiamento. After we had been in the islands a bit longer, our ears became more attuned and we were able to hear more of the subtleties of the language, and it sounded more like, “Badda bing badda bing badda bing.”

Congrats and welcome back! I’ve been subscribing to the “wedding” tag on Flickr (for my own purposes) and saw your pictures there last month. I was especially suprised to see people I knew who I didn’t know you knew, but that’s Chapel Hill for you.

Anyway, I hope this means you’ll be blogging more…

jean and i went to sils together. and i planned my move around their wedding, which i also became my last big hurrah in the thill before heading west. it was a little embarrassing, what with all the free wine…oh but well i won’t go into that. it was a lovely time.

Don’t even mention the free wine. Eesh.

Dave and I would really really like to hear more about the free wine. Although in attendance at our own wedding, we’re not sure we know what happened there. Except for something about a cake and something about some toasts and then there was my break dancing nephew. We’re thinking of holding small dinner parties where we interview people about the event as they remember it. Please tell us more!

i’ll tell you more, but not here :-)

Woo hoo — you’re back! In both ways!

well… it was a warm spring evening, i was in the mood for white wine. and it flowed pretty freely, in fact it was hard to find a glass of water (not that i tried) which i can say was probably my downfall.

jane’s really a better resource here because my memory gets spotty, but i know this for certain: i took a walk with kathleen where we smashed our wine glasses on columbia street.

i took a walk with jane where i announced i was ready to go. she sat me down on a bench at the entrance where the driveway loops around, gathered our stuff, and as we walked down the driveway towards pittsboro street, i projectile vomited a few times into the bushes at the carolina inn. apparently without really stopping.

i tell you this *only* because you ask.

i then have the faintest memories of only speaking french (or trying to) as jane and i walked back to the car.

i’ll let patrick and abe tell you about the champagne :)

Ohhhh, I walked by that vomit & wondered who it belonged to.
On a more sanitary note, I’m so glad you’re back!
