You're right, of course, that there is a difference between looking forward to the next thing coming up (for example, I AM looking forward to three days with my family) and looking forward to something being over.

As far as social media presence, I started writing my blog pretty much for the same reason I do everything else - I felt like it. Now I hear from so many people who say, "I read your blog!" that I started thinking maybe I should be more serious and not write posts that say a three-way interaction is not found nearly as common in Analysis of Variance as it is in an X-rated video, or that installing SAS Enterprise Miner requires a band of marching flamingos and the sacrifice of a free-range chicken or that when my children misbehaved I threatened to sell them for scientific experiments because incredibly, people sometimes take far more of what I say as serious and true than intended.

I guess you're right, it depends on what kind of message you want to send. My oldest daughter (who I am glad I did not sell for scientific experiments after all) suggested that the precise reason people read my blog is that it isn't approved by a team of corporate PR people and lawyers.

Maybe that's OK, because I don't think I could work well in an environment that required me to have adult supervision.
