The Boy Comes Down the Stairs – a short screenplay

INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

It is evening in a comfortable suburban home. The pots and pans from dinner are soaking in the sink. THE MRS and THE BOY have gone upstairs for the evening bath. DADDY is enjoying a moment of calm in the living room.

THE MRS “heard from upstairs”

Where are you going?

THE BOY

I’m going downstairs to see Daddy!

The sound of pounding feet is heard descending the stairs, then crossing the hardwood floor. THE BOY enters the room, sliding to a stop like the Road Runner.

THE BOY

Daddy, why are you downstairs?

DADDY

I’m coming upstairs to read you stories after Mommy gives you a bath.

THE BOY

Okay, Daddy!

THE BOY runs out of the room. As he climbs the stairs, he calls behind him.

THE BOY

I love you, Daddy!

DADDY

I love you too, buddy!

THE BOY

Okay, see you soon!
